Mahler wrote, “A symphony should be like the world, it should embrace everything,” and his first symphony is just that. From its opening whispers of dawn and birdsong to its grand and glorious finale, Mahler’s symphony is turbulent, passionate, triumphant … and simply exhilarating.
New World Symphony and The Cleveland Orchestra unite for this monumental piece, as well as Berlioz’s Overture to Benvenuto Cellini. In between, rising pianist George Li joins Cleveland for Debussy’s intoxicating Fantaisie.
