The Third Forward Motion Dance Festival Presented by Karen Peterson and Dancers

Returning after being canceled in 2020 when performing arts venues were shuttered, the Third Annual Forward Motion Physically Integrated Dance Festival & Conference showcases companies, dancers and choreographers who are inclusive of those with and without disabilities, exploring a new terrain of beauty, movement and performance. Produced by Florida’s own groundbreaking physically integrated dance pioneers, Karen Peterson and Dancers (KPD), this third event will truly mark the start of South Florida’s reopened performing arts season, and feature some of the best dancers and companies of any kind, in performance, in discussion and holding workshops. Performances include the Miami premieres of Dancing Wheels’ Company’s Pallas Athena, with choreography by Catherine Meredith, and Odyssey, with choreography by Marc Brew; the Miami premiere of Perky, Quirky, Smirky, from REVolutions Dance, with choreography by Christina Acosta; the Miami premiere of Remember When, a solo featuring Jesus Vidal de Leon, choreography by Marc Brew; and a new restaging of KPD’s Lost and Found, choreography by Karen Peterson, video by Dinorah de Jesus Rodriguez. Siudy Flamenco BAILAORA Presented by Arsht Center

“Garrido is a brilliant soloist with a vibrant company.” - Los Angeles Times SIUDY FLAMENCO BAILAORA - within me, within you by Siudy Garrido After a successful world premiere in Miami in 2019, Bailaora – within me, within you returns by popular demand! Bailaora – within me, within you traces the evolution of flamenco from a New World perspective. Award-winning choreographer and dancer Siudy Garrido is recognized for her contemporary work in flamenco. Her company has collaborated with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and flamenco stars Farruquito and Antonio Canales. The music in Bailaora pairs traditional flamenco instrumentation with synthesized sounds. The narrative takes an emotional journey through dance that results in a humanist and feminist commentary on self-invention and self-determination, revealing the vulnerability and inner strength of a warrior whose only voice is her art. Arsht Center Commitment to Health and Safety The Arsht Center remains deeply committed to the health and peace of mind of our guests, artists and staff. Based on guidance from national and local health officials, these performances are seated at full capacity. Face coverings are required. We are also maintaining enhanced cleaning, sanitation and air filtration procedures. Please visit arshtcenter.org for more details and future updates.
