Frankenstein - National Theatre Live Presented by Coral Gables Art Cinema

Directed by Academy Award®-winner Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire), Frankenstein features Benedict Cumberbatch (12 Years A Slave, Star Trek: Into Darkness) and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting, Mansfield Park). The production was a sell-out hit at the National Theatre in 2011, and the broadcast has since become an international sensation, experienced by almost half a million people in cinemas around the world. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale. "A thrill. The most viscerally exciting and stunning show in town." – Daily Telegraph These screenings feature Benedict Cumberbatch as the creature and Jonny Lee Miller as Victor Frankenstein.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame Presented by Seminole Theatre Players

Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Menken and Schwartz. Peter Parnell’s new book embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo’s gothic novel. The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be "Out There," observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful Romani woman, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the Roma – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all. A sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic. Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical.

WAR WORDS by Michelle Kholos Brooks Presented by the Arsht Center and City Theatre

WAR WORDS tells the truly heroic, funny, poignant and heartbreaking stories of men and women who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan during the “Long War.” Based on interviews with veterans and their families, the fully staged play reading aims to bridge the divide between those who serve in the military and the rest of us who say, “Thank you for your service” without really understanding what that means. Michelle Kholos Brooks peoples her play with 17 characters who have returned from war to their homes, families, and communities, which is neither simple nor easy. As audiences watch, they will think of members of their own families, friends and neighbors with a new recognition of what coming home really means. City Theatre's professional play reading of WAR WORDS, nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, is more timely than ever.

Over 200 years later, Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein poses and allows readers to ponder the questions that still remain very much relevant; questions about ambition, family, love, and belonging. The same questions, still conveyed in Nick Dear’s adaptation of Frankenstein at the Arsht Center directed by Stuart. Meltzer.
