Afrobeta Presented by Rhythm Foundation

Afrobeta is perhaps the most Miami band in the short but lively history of our city. Their sound transcends genre classifications. Tony “Smurphio” Laurencio ’s signature timbraI tendencies are instantly identifiable; aqueous synth leads effortlessly navigate throughout rhythmic mazes of snapping & shuffling percussion, blanketed in painterly strokes of bass (this is Miami-made music, after all). Cuci Amador’s emotive vocal & lyrical lines provide a challenging counterpoint, creating a tension too complex for standard-issue pop - a welcome sensory distortion, easily memorable even after only one taste. To speak nothing of the costumes and imaginative stage sets... Their edgy pop bangers brought them to initially to the stage of Ultra Music Festival, and garnered a host of “Best Of” awards. Since their launch in 2006, they have played stages including Glastonbury, Space Ibiza, Burning Man and beyond, and rocked alongside like-minded artists, Ghostland Observatory, Bassnectar, Orbital, The Crystal Method, Hercules & Love Affair, Diplo, Holy Ghost!, SOPHIE, and dozens more. True muses, Smurphio and Cuci individually have their fingers in the pot of pretty much every creative innovative scene in the #305. Smurphio in bands from Pitbull to Suenalo and Spam All Stars, among others. Cuci with Miami Girls Rock Camp, Miamibloco, Miami Sound Chorus, modern dance ensembles, theater projects. Together, they launched the legendary Mooncakes Festival, and produced the documentary ‘Birthright’. To name but a few of their projects. Thank you Afrobeta for making our city more fun! The North Beach Social stage is yours and we can’t wait to hear what you bring to it. “With their dance-a-licious beats, Afrobeta’s songs are classic yet modern, underground yet Billboard chart-friendly... Miami is lucky to have them on a regular basis; they’re a match in disco-house heaven.” -The Miami New Times

Devendra Banhart Presented by Rhythm Foundation

When Devendra Banhart first emerged two decades ago, his eccentric persona, falsetto-heavy singing, and sprawling aesthetic made him the poster child of the then-burgeoning freak folk movement. He wasn’t merely prolific and extroverted in championing this style-colliding cultural moment, he also worked as an advocate for fellow travelers and overlooked heroes such as the great British folk singer Vashti Bunyan, whose career he helped resurrect. Over time the eccentricities of the Venezuelan-raised explorer have been moderated, and now the tender beauty and airiness of his music is no longer obscured by his old hippie persona. Still, the basic building blocks of his expansive sound endure, blending American folk with acoustic traditions of South America, particularly the breezy pop, spare arrangements and chill bossa nova of Brazil. Opening set by Maye.

La Dame Blanche Presented by Rhythm Foundation

Tigre Sounds and Rhythm Foundation present a Global Concert Series for Citizens of the World featuring La Dame Blanche, with support from Casalu. LA DAME BLANCHE: With her always expanding and singular mix of hip hop, female empowerment, dancehall, and catchy beats, singer, flautist, and percussionist Yaite Ramos Rodriguez, aka La Dame Blanche, delivers a powerful and compelling sound that summons the spirits. Born and raised in Pinar del Rio, she was the daughter of Jesús "Aguaje" Ramos, the artistic director of the Buena Vista Social Club orquestra, her days on the island filled with dancing and singing, though it was in Paris that she began sharing her music with artists around the world. This Cuban living in Paris creates blends in every aspect; between Latin and Urban, Cumbia and Hip-Hop, the strong and the sensual, and the stage lights a show and the flame of a candle in a ritual. Opening set by incandescent Miami-based singer/dancer Gaiya.
