Traditional Cuban music runs in her veins and jazz and American funk have shaped her artistic personality. Born in Cuba, to a very close family that enjoys warm afternoons improvising a melody, Leslie Cartaya decided to begin her solo career with her first record production “No Pares."

3rd Annual Art Blues Soul & BBQ Festival Presented by African Heritage Cultural Arts Center

The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center (AHCAC), presents the third annual “Art, Blues, Soul & BBQ Festival” on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This annual event celebrates the arts, sounds and flavors of black Miami during Art Basel week and will be held on the grounds of the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, 6161 NW 22nd Avenue, Miami, at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Moonlight Way. General admission is free, RSVPs are encouraged at ahcacmiami.eventbrite.com. This free outdoor event is a platform introduced by the Center to celebrate the rich history of the African Diaspora while providing an opportunity for local artist to open for national artists and share their music with the community. The Art, Blues, Soul & BBQ Festival mainstage will feature national artists such as R&B and musical group Surface, best known for their hit “Happy,” and Grammy Award winning American blues artist Bobby Rush and Grammy award winning soul singer William Bell. The local lineup includes hometown favorites, Sony recording artist Mojo Ike & Val, bass player Jay Jones, and Entourage. Guests will be entertained by host Chello and DJ Chico the Leo. The Center’s Amadlozi Gallery will exhibit dynamic artwork by ceramist Morel Doucet in his first solo exhibition White Noise: When Raindrops Whisper and Moonlight Screams in Silence. Local artists will display eye-popping visual art under pop-up tents. This event is a celebration with a purpose and created for foodies and music lovers alike. General admission is free. Reserved seating is $10. VIP tickets are $55 and include priority parking, catered food and beverage, and reserved seating underneath under the festivals’ VIP tent.
