Jazz Roots: British Invasion - Latin Style Presented by Arsht Center
The 12th anniversary season of JAZZ ROOTS begins with a Latin and British musical mix starring JOSÉ FELICIANO, ARTURO SANDOVAL, TIM RIES, LUCY WOODWARD, KATE REID, FANTINE, and SHELLY BERG featuring the HENRY MANCINI INSTITUTE ORCHESTRA. The evening will also serve as a welcome to the new JAZZ ROOTS presenting partner, EFG International. The concert is an exciting twist on British-influenced jazz with new arrangements and orchestrations of The Beatles, Sting and more.
Legendary nine-time GRAMMY® Award winner JOSÉ FELICIANO joins this all-star lineup opening the 2019-20 Jazz Roots season. Synonymous with an international presence that has influenced popular music for more than two generations, Feliciano is recognized as the first Latin artist to cross over into the English market. He has been awarded over 45 Gold and Platinum records, earch 19 GRAMMY nominations and won 9 GRAMMY awards, as well as received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center.
This start-studded season opener also features ARTURO SANDOVAL, a protégé of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie and one of the world’s most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet. SANDOVAL has been awarded 10 GRAMMY® Awards, 19 GRAMMY® nominations, six Billboard Awards, an Emmy Award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Joining FELICIANO and SANDOVAL that evening will be London native LUCY WOODWARD whose performances USA Today hails as “a string-kissed slice of retro British pop by a versatile singer/songwriter”; vocalist KATE REID; multilingual artist FANTINE; and Steinway piano artist and multi-GRAMMY® nominated arranger and producer SHELLY BERG.
