Mlima is a magnificent elephant trapped by the underground international ivory market. As he follows a trail littered by a history of greed, Mlima takes us on a journey through memory, fear, tradition and the penumbra between want and need. From Lynn Nottage (MJ the Musical), the two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Sweat and Ruined, Mlima’s Tale is a captivating and haunting fable come to life. This multimedia production features movement direction by Miami City Ballet choreographer Herman Payne and film curation by Delavega. Note: This production includes mature content.

"F. Punk Junkies" by Teo Castellanos D-Projects Presented by Miami Light Project

Miami Light Project presents the world premiere of "F.Punk Junkies", a dance theater performance written and directed by award-winning playwright Teo Castellanos with dramaturgy by Dr. Keshia Abraham and choreography by Michelle Grant-Murray and Augusto Soledade, at The Light Box at Goldman Warehouse, October 3-8, 2022. "F.Punk Junkies" is an Afropunk-inspired theatrical work that digs deeply into our collective ancestral roots. Honoring the elders in the artist community and cultivating the next generation of artists in the process, "F.Punk Junkies" disrupts traditional ways of both creating and experiencing art.

Delirium By Conecta Miami Arts Presented by Miami-Dade County Auditorium

The director of psychiatric pavilion 305 once again prepares her patients to participate in a cultural program that allows them to present their show outside of the confines of the hospital as part of their therapy. The patients however end up losing control as they bring to life the mythical characters of French comedian Jean-Baptiste Poquelin "Moliere". Their story unravels into a hilarious display of histrionics and alienation with 13 characters trapped in a rehab facility that shows the vulnerability and imperfection of individuals with a heavy dose of humor and innocence. DELIRIUM closes the successful trilogy that began with Pavillion 305 (2015), followed by Shakespeare in Madness (2019); produced by the Adriana Barraza Veritatem Theater. DELIRIUM is presented this time by Conecta Miami Arts as part of its annual program to work with young Hispanic artists, local musicians, and guest actors, in collaboration with AB Veritatem Theatre. Funnyhouse of a Negro Presented by Brévo Theatre

As a part of our “Dans le avant-garde” series, “Funnyhouse of a Negro” by Adrienne Kennedy, directed by Zaylin Yates, is a poetic and symbolic investigation into one woman’s mind before her death. Sarah has created four different personas as a way to grapple with her own self-hatred: Queen Victoria, the Duchess of Hapsburg, Jesus, and Patrice Lumumba. With these four characters at her side, Sarah tries to make sense of her conception (from rape), her life without her parents, and the creeping insanity that she feels all around her. Runtime: Approximately 1hr. 10mins. (No intermission) Following the show, on October 23, we will host “Between Two Worlds,” a symposium on colorism and self-identity. This symposium will focus on mental and emotional healing for biracial men and women. Additionally, tackling topics on how the community can seek emotional healing. Learning tools to practice self-love and embracing all the things that define their humanity. Mental illness, self-hate, and the need to be socially accepted are issues that currently plague the Black and BIPOC communities. Avoiding these conversations increases the number of suicide attempts we experience in Miami Dade County. This symposium will feature a panel of special guests and focus on mental and emotional healing for black/brown men and women. Mental illness, self-hate, and the need to be socially accepted are issues that currently plague the black community, and it is time to have a conversation. Admission to the symposium will be free. If you plan to only attend the symposium, you will be admitted once the performance concludes. The Symposium will also be streamed online via Zoom and Facebook Live.

Boston Early Music Chamber Opera Series Presented by RK Cultural Productions

The world premiere of Always Remember, the definitive new musical about the Cuban-American experience, will be presented on Thanksgiving weekend, 2022! In development for over two decades, this epic full-scale work by Marilyn Morales, a Cuban-born American, follows a family’s struggle to leave Castro’s Cuba – and reunite after being separated by forces beyond their control. Entertaining, uplifting and enlightening, this great musical speaks to the ageless plight of all refugees. With an intriguing narrative, rich musical score and bold dialogue – delivered by world-class performers – Always Remember has something for everyone! Carmen by Bizet Presented by The Moss Center and Miami Lyric Opera

Carmen, opera in four acts, by French composer Georges Bizet with libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, based on the story by Prosper Mérimée. The opera was first performed by the Opéra-Comique in Paris on 3 March 1875, where its breaking of conventions shocked and scandalized its first audiences. The story is set in Seville, Spain, around 1830, and concerns the eponymous Carmen, a beautiful Gipsy with a fiery temper. Free with her love, she woos the corporal Don José, an inexperienced soldier. Their relationship leads to his rejection of his former love, mutiny against his superior and joining a gang of smugglers. His jealousy when she turns from him to the bullfighter Escamillo leads him to murder Carmen.

Liv and Will are living the “happily ever after.” Or so they thought until they met Tess. Once the time agents showed up…well, there’s “it’s complicated...” and “it’s… complicated…” 2022. An archivist is cataloguing the effects of an estate dating back to the Gilded Age. As he delves into the family history, he finds himself drawn to a young woman in 1937 who reminds him of his partner. 1937. A young socialite living at the estate finds herself drawn to the world of the racy nightclub, La Paloma. There, she falls in love with a woman seemingly from another time, a more progressive time. The more they each learn about one another, the more the time periods collide until they begin to step back and forth into one another’s times and places. That’s when agents from the far future step in…to straighten things out? Or eliminate the paradox entirely? Some things that happened for the first time seem to be happening again. But who will end up with whom? And where or when?
