The Barber of Seville Presented by Florida Grand Opera
By GIOACCHINO ROSSINI
Libretto by Cesare Sterbini
First performed: February 20, 1816, Teatro Argentina, Rome
Last performed by Florida Grand Opera in 2015
Opera’s most beloved rascal, the barber, Figaro, helps Count Almaviva woo and win the lovely Rosina. She may be the ward of Dr. Bartolo, but Rosina has a will of her own. Romance, secret messages, and disguises ensue as Rossini’s infectious melodies lead a looney tuney madcap comedy.
